The Serica was one of the fast and beautiful tea clippers which raced the new season’s teas from China back to the London market. She was designed and built by Robert Steele, and launched at his Greenock shipyard in 1863.

Serica was the first clipper home during her maiden voyage in 1864, and was part of the famous 1866 race, where the first five ships to sail from China arrived in England almost together, 99 days later.

The ship continued to make good passages for another five years, but her luck ran out in November 1872, when she was wrecked in the China Sea, just a day after sailing from Hong Kong.

Framing

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON PAPER 

We use a simple classic frame, gold finish over a black ground, approximately 1 3/4 inches (4.4 cm) in width with off-white acid-free mount 2 1/2 to 3 inches (6.5 - 7.5 cm) wide. Pictures are framed under glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging.

For larger pictures that are to be shipped we can use perspex instead of glass for security in transit - we may contact you to discuss this. Frame example shown above. 

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON CANVAS

For pictures on canvas we use a simple classic frame with a gold finish and a white slip next to the canvas, approximately 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) in width. Pictures are framed like an oil painting with no glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging. Frame example shown above.
