Eighteen J Class boats were designed between 1930 and 1939, only ten of which were actually built. Three of these boast have survived to the present day and have been restored. Since 2004 several other boats have been replicated using the original plans, and new J class boats have been designed too.

The characteristic feature of the J Class is the so-called Bermuda rigging with a continuous mast without extension and high rigging instead of the otherwise customary gaff rig. A bowsprit to secure job sails is not provided for.

The fascination of the J Class derives from the unique combination of the boats’ size and speed. The social prestige of their proud owners and the high drama of challenging both Neptune and fellow mortals in such costly and thoroughbred craft make J class racing so compelling. The thrill of victory and the heartbreak of defeat make the J class truly the premier league in yacht racing.

Framing

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON PAPER 

We use a simple classic frame, gold finish over a black ground, approximately 1 3/4 inches (4.4 cm) in width with off-white acid-free mount 2 1/2 to 3 inches (6.5 - 7.5 cm) wide. Pictures are framed under glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging.

For larger pictures that are to be shipped we can use perspex instead of glass for security in transit - we may contact you to discuss this. Frame example shown above. 

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON CANVAS

For pictures on canvas we use a simple classic frame with a gold finish and a white slip next to the canvas, approximately 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) in width. Pictures are framed like an oil painting with no glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging. Frame example shown above.
