Limited Edition Print on Paper

Founded in 1731, the Swedish East India Company became an important influence on the economic and cultural life of Sweden, particularly in its trade with China. Ships sailed to Spain with timber, tars and metal and sold them for silver, this they then used to buy Chinese goods at favourable prices. The East Indiaman Götheborg was engaged in such trade and is depicted on the Pearl River near Canton. She is being loaded with bales of rattan from a barge. At left is a busy settlement, at right an old European hulk now being used as a repair depot for visiting ships. In the distance can be seen other European vessels lying at anchor.

Tragically, the Götheborg ran aground and sank on her return just before entering the harbour of Gothenburg, Sweden, on 12 September 1745. She was carrying more then 500,000 pieces of porcelain, 133 tons of the alloy tutenag, 370 tons of tea, mother of pearl, pepper and rattan. A great deal of this cargo has been salvaged and some of it has formed part of an exhibition which has been seen in Hong Kong and Sweden.

Framing

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON PAPER 

We use a simple classic frame, gold finish over a black ground, approximately 1 3/4 inches (4.4 cm) in width with off-white acid-free mount 2 1/2 to 3 inches (6.5 - 7.5 cm) wide. Pictures are framed under glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging.

For larger pictures that are to be shipped we can use perspex instead of glass for security in transit - we may contact you to discuss this. Frame example shown above. 

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON CANVAS

For pictures on canvas we use a simple classic frame with a gold finish and a white slip next to the canvas, approximately 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) in width. Pictures are framed like an oil painting with no glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging. Frame example shown above.
