H.M.S.Renownis seen here entering Plymouth on completion of her tour to India, Japan and the Far East with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales. The battles of the Falklands and Heligoland Bight early in the Great War had clearly shown, some believed, the great value of fast yet heavily armed ships: that these attributes were achieved at the expense of armour inRenownandRepulsewas not lost on the Grand Fleet which the two new ships joined only days after the Battle of Jutland; here the vulnerability of our lightly armoured battlecruisers had been graphically illustrated. Although they were thereupon taken in hand for enhancement of their armour - and on several subsequent occasions as well - many in the fleet always remained unconvinced about their ability to withstand punishment from heavy shellfire. ButRenownreceived a major reconstruction in the late 1930s and rejoined the fleet in time for a very busy war. She was scrapped in 1948.

Framing

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON PAPER

We use a simple classic frame, gold finish over a black ground, approximately 1 3/4 inches (4.4 cm) in width with off-white acid-free mount 2 1/2 to 3 inches (6.5 - 7.5 cm) wide. Pictures are framed under glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging.

For larger pictures that are to be shipped we can use perspex instead of glass for security in transit - we may contact you to discuss this. Frame example shown above.

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON CANVAS

For pictures on canvas we use a simple classic frame with a gold finish and a white slip next to the canvas, approximately 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) in width. Pictures are framed like an oil painting with no glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging. Frame example shown above.
