The last warship of any size to be built on the River Thames, Thunderer was commissioned in June 1912. She and her sisters of the Orion Class (Orion, Conqueror and Monarch) each carried ten 13 1/2inch guns. The class were 581 feet long overall, displaced 22,500 tons and at full power could manage a good 21.5 knots.

Commanded at Jutland by Captain J A Fergusson, Thunderer was part of Vice Admiral Sir Martyn Jerram's 2nd Battle Squadron: she gave a good account of herself and survived the battle unscathed. In 1919 she and Temeraire became training ships for cadets, a role they performed until 1924, Thunderer being paid off and sold in 1926.

Victory, shown here in the background as she lay off Gosport, was in her final months afloat. In December 1921 she was moved across the harbour and into the dockyard before being dry docked on 12 January 1922.

Framing

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON PAPER 

We use a simple classic frame, gold finish over a black ground, approximately 1 3/4 inches (4.4 cm) in width with off-white acid-free mount 2 1/2 to 3 inches (6.5 - 7.5 cm) wide. Pictures are framed under glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging.

For larger pictures that are to be shipped we can use perspex instead of glass for security in transit - we may contact you to discuss this. Frame example shown above. 

PRINTS & PAINTINGS ON CANVAS

For pictures on canvas we use a simple classic frame with a gold finish and a white slip next to the canvas, approximately 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) in width. Pictures are framed like an oil painting with no glass and fitted with wire ready for hanging. Frame example shown above.
