Although the British fleet, under Admiral Graves, were not completely defeated they had the worst of the action and lost control of the sea lanes and therefore the ability to re-supply the British army under Lord Cornwallis that was under siege in Yorktown.\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe battle itself lasted barely two hours with not all ships able to become involved.
