Peter Hore, in his book on HMS Pickle, speculates that had Nelson lived he might have rewarded Captain Blackwood by tasking him to take the dispatches home in Euryalus but Collingwood needed the frigate for his flagship and, as he wrote, chose Pickle as he had "no means of speedier or safer conveyance with me at present".

In Geoff Hunt's painting we see the moment, around 12 noon on the 26th of October, when Lapenotiere's little boat returns to Pickle from Euryalus. Pickle will depart immediately for England.
